8 villages to explore

1. Le Louroux

An atmosphere of serenity surrounds this authentic medieval village where an impressive fortified priory dominates. The tithe barn, the prior’s lodge, the dovecote and the mill are certain to enchant you! A vast wetland area is home to a high biodiversity and is a favoured nesting place for birds. Workshops led by the LPO (Bird Protection League) help the public to learn about our feathered friends.

2.  Ferrière-Larçon

One of the most noteworthy villages in Southern Touraine! Nestled in the heart of beautiful natural surroundings, the village is full of charm and history, with numerous cave dwellings, as well as architectural heritage. The Saint-Mandé-Saint-Jean church is one of the most interesting in the Touraine.

3. La Guerche

The village sits on the banks of the Creuse River. The impressive castle can be admired from the bridge and is open to visitors from mid-June to mid-September.

Panels throughout the village guide visitors as they explore the narrow medieval streets. Among the interesting sights are, the gate-tower ‘the Châtière’ to the north, Saint-Marcellin church, and traces of the ramparts.

4. Yzeures-sur-Creuse

Yzeures-sur-Creuse is the birthplace of Mado Robin, a celebrated singer during the 40s and 50s, whose voice was reputed to be the highest in the world. A lovely museum dedicated to her is worth a visit. A stone's throw away  is the Minerve Museum, displaying Gallo-Roman remains found nearby. A walk around the village begins near the Notre-Dame church, with its pretty lime tree square. Rebuilt in the 19th century, the church still has a remarkable 12th-century section.

5. Cormery

Cormery, situated between Loches and Tours, boasts an ancient Benedictine abbey, which was established in 791 and is one of its most notable landmarks. Bordered by the Indre River, the town has preserved some of its 15th century buildings and has a rich cultural heritage. Their unique macaroons are also worth trying!

6. Chaumussay

This pretty village, set between the winding banks of the Claise River, is an excellent place to unwind. Enjoy the gentle ripples of the weir and Saint-Marc fountain. The Romanesque church has a perfectly preserved apse. There is also a beautiful picnic area, which is partly covered and offers a refreshing stopover on the river bank.

7. Boussay

Nestled in a beautiful wooded valley, Boussay is an artist’s dream. Its church, château and pretty houses adorned with roses and Virginia creeper make it a peaceful picture-postcard village, ideal for a bucolic stroll that will delight amateur photographers. The 2km artistic trail "In the footsteps of the painter jean Dufy" features 8 panels reproducing works by the painter. From june to September, the "Halle Café" in the perfect place for a tasty break.

8. Preuilly-sur-Claise

A village steeped in history, which still retains a medieval feel and where the elegant silhouette of the Saint-Pierre abbey church with its glazed tile roof can be admired. Numerous listed buildings bear witness to the remarkable heritage of this village.
